I would never use Amex if I thought I might cancel and rebook the trip. Using a credit with Amex is a nightmare beyond imagination.

However, mere schedule changes have not been a problem. For example, I booked two trips LAX-MIA-PHL, both flight 340 connecting to 375. 375 (MIA-PHL) was changed from 9AM to 4:45PM, and I was rebooked on a different flight from MIA-PHL at 10AM. I wanted to be on 375 (B787, lie-flats) and I called AA and they moved me with no problem.

You might also check the J fares on Amex. I've gotten some really awesome fares through Amex. $350+25K points each way is around $1000 in value. Maybe it's worth buying biz.
What on earth are you talking about? AMEX credits the cost of any flight booked on AMEX Travel back to your card within minutes of cancelling any reservation made in the previous 24 hours. They don't issue a flight credit. You get an immediate refund. LOL.

The point was to be able to check the booking class, and you can do so after purchasing the ticket, then cancelling if it doesn't suit you.
