I will give it a shot. We just purchased true necessities which included one change of clothes for Mrs. Liquid and I, so a couple hundred bucks at most. This all could have been avoided if, I don't know, maybe they loaded our bags on our flight?

However note that while you can claim a full loss at 21 days, the total claimable will remain around USD 1650 - that's the limit of BA's liability regardless of how it is claimed.
I'm hoping we don't get to this stage but I used the BA Visa to pay for the flight which offers up to $3k coverage for lost bags. I haven't read the fine print in the card agreement yet as I'm still hopeful the bags turn up.
