Additionally, in this this day and age, dropping an Apple airtag or a Tile tag in the bag is a great idea. Then you can set the tag into "lost mode", but more importantly, you know where the bag has gone missing. For me, recently, this meant I knew as soon as I was off my flight that my bag was still at DUB, so I didn't have to waste time waiting for the bag not to show up on the carousel.
