Missing bags - no receipts

This may be a forlorn hope....

Returning to T5 late on Saturday evening, we were advised by BA customer service staff to leave the airport, file a missing baggage claim, and get the bags delivered home by a courier. The delay for bags reaching the carousels was like to be at least ninety minutes, probably more.

We left the airport, got home - and my partner realised she'd lost her boarding card with the baggage receipts.

The BA call centre in the USA says the booking reference won't have any record of the baggage receipt numbers.

Do we have any possibility of seeing the bags again?
