. Does identifying yourselve as Plat to a regular SMS rep help for anyone? When I asked for help on making some dinner reservations, all I got was "here is the number to the hotel concierge, but I can't even transfer you."

The Special Member Services people have access to an online form that they can fill out for Platinum Concierge associates to follow up on. If you run across this again, get their user id and ask to speak to their supervisor. If one is not available, keep the user id and ask for a supervisor call-back. When they call back, discuss the situation with the supervisor. They will probably see to it that the associate gets some special attention.
And, no, I don't mean death by firing squad.
