[Moderators, please feel free to move this to the compensation thread.]

I discovered that I had been charged $949 today, a day before the flight. Booking a new ticket now would be $577, over $100 more than if I had been charged the right amount originally.

What compensation should I expect for this? This seems to be in conflict with US Department of Transportation requirements (and AA’s own customer terms) that a fare be honored for 24 hours on hold.

Would asking for a $250 voucher (however it’s called) be reasonable since it’s happened several times (even though before, I caught it immediately)?

Thanks.
