The alternative is waiting at Miami airport for a further 6 hours and arriving late evening which I obviously want to avoid.
If that is your only alternative then book the 26 (not 25) minute connection. If you miss it there are three more flights that can get you to Palm Springs. There is also an earlier flight through ORD.
Bags will make this connection most of the time, but there is a higher likelihood of not making it than a longer connection. But if you are limited to those two options won't have lost anything if you need to collect them from the next flight
