Surprisingly few reports on the W here. I'm considering it vs. the JW vs. Conrad for a 3-night family stay after a cruise. Never been to Singapore before, so we want to do some touristy stuff but also enjoy just exploring in and around nice hotels/resorts. Any reason the W won't work for that?
Location, location, location. The W is not ideally located for exploring Singapore, you want somewhere more central and ideally right on top of an MRT station. Either of the Marriotts are better located, the Tang Plaza for the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, the JW is a bit more upscale. Don't overlook the Westin especially if the Thomson East Coast MRT line opens up before your trip (new station right by the Westin will open before year end. But there are two other stations nearby too. If you will consider non Marriott affiliated hotels, then the Fairmont or Swissotel are probably the best located, right on top of the main MRT interchange at City Hall.
