I have an AUS-MEX flight booked on AM with a non-status companion on the same PNR. The AM site recognizes my Silver Medallion status and will let me select an exit row seat for free but wants to charge me to seat my companion next to me. Is this a website glitch or a known AM policy?

Anyone have any experience with companion upgrades on AM? In theory they should work the same as on DL.
