Things have clearly changed.
I was ticketed JFK-CMN-RAK.
JFK check-in assured me that I would clear immigration at Marrakesh not Casablanca.
Bags also tagged thru to RAK.
Sure enough, domestic connections sent away from international arrivals and connections and directed by secure pathway to domestic departures.
Re the point made re the need to clear immigration at first point of entry, that seemed reasonable to me.
However, both international and domestic arrivals had to go thru passport control in Marrakesh!
