No, you do not lose any time on your card. They have extended it so that if you renew your Nexus before it expires, they keep your Nexus benefits active for up to 2 years while your renewal is processing. You must renew your Nexus before it expires for that "extension" to happen.

USD50 covers 5 years from the last expiration date of your card. You do not lose any period of validity. That is why you always renew Nexus when you are able to renew. Do not wait to renew Nexus. It makes no difference.
