Just renew now, you won't get an extended validity period by waiting until closer to expiration date. Nexus validity dates are not like passport validity dates.
Thanks for the reminder. I just thought of that.

My first Nexus card was valid for 5 years, 11 months.

Since Nexus expires 5 years on one's birthday, I wonder if the renewal expires 5 years later or if it's up to 6 years since it seems to take about 12-13 months to renew. Example: Birthday is March 1. Nexus expires March 1, 2023 (but automatic extension pushes effective expiration to March 1, 2024 if a renewal is in progress). Apply for renewal now (September 1, 2022) and get approved September 1, 2023. New expiration would be March 1, 2029 (5 year plus time to next birthday)?

Another idea is if it is possible for US residents to pay CAD50? I thought that all credit cards are processed as Canadian but I found this to not be true, even if using a Canadian issued credit card.
