Well we made it to Chiang Mai and to our surprise our luggage was there waiting for us despite the 2 separate itineraries. We did exactly this:

- Check in with Air Canada in Calgary and ask for our bags only to be checked through to Vancouver where we have a 5 hour layover
- Pick up our checked bags after arrival in Vancouver
- Head to the Eva check-in desk to drop off our checked luggage and ask them if they can check it through to Chiang Mai by showing them our Thai Smile tickets.
We asked Air Canada in Calgary if we could check it all the way to CNX but they had no clue so let us try the above. At the Eva desk I showed the CSR the blurb from the Thai Smile website about them having a baggage interlining agreement. She had to call the supervisor over who showed her how to do it in their system and even gave us a boarding pass for the other Thai Smile ticket. Before we approached the Eva desk in Vancouver we had a browser on my phone ready to purchase seats on the earlier Thai Smile flight from BKK to CNX. As soon as Eva told us the interlining was possible, I hit the buy button and gave her our flight details.
