Yes! I always hold my tongue on Hoi An because I don't want to ruin anyone's mood or excitement about visiting Viet Nam but truthfully I think the entire town is a pretty backdrop for tourist traps. This is coming from someone who's visited twice now because everyone I travel to VN with wants to visit Hoi An (they're the type to believe online travel blogger raves...)...My VNese friends who visited this year told me even they! got ripped off by some well-known chicken rice restaurant there. I got ripped off at the same place years ago! If I thought Hoi An was lame before the pandemic, then it's likely to be in worse condition now after their tourist industry was decimated. Also the beaches in the vicinity are not that nice. Sand isn't fine. Can't say I hate Hoi An but it's not worth more than a half day walkaround.
