We (domestic partner and I) have an award flight whose fees were paid on Amex Plat. Connection flight home in domestic USA was cancelled due to weather and rebooked on a bizarre trip to different hub city with an overnight layover. We are considering two options depending on costs:

1) book train tickets from connection point to home city.

2) book overnight hotel and meals, etc

which of the two are more / more likely covered by Amex delay insurance ?
