Update: this method seemed to work for a while, but now I'm getting complaints like crazy about the beeping taking place anyway. Giving the tags a squeeze does seem to make the beeping stop/stop sooner.

I hope Apple considers allowing for these devices to be set up with a means to "silence" the beeping for a fixed period of time even if it's only for a couple of hours after being put into "silent" mode.

Not interested in buying modified AirTags with the mechanically-disabled speakers even as they may be found for sale on eBay, Etsy, etc.
