I ended up booking H class SFO>FRA>LYS (codeshare) and called the 1k desk and got it rebooked to a LH flight number. It took some time and a call back since there was a glitch and my reservation showed two separate SFO-FRA legs in different classes. Once the second segment was removed my upgrade request went through and I'm waitlisted. 44 of 80 open seats so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. My flight is 11/4...fingers crossed for the bump.
