I am trying to determine if it is worth it for me to work for Diamond for 2023, and if so -- how? Specifically, given my plans for travel for the end of the year, it appears I am going to be approximately $1,100 MQD short. I have lots of rollover MQM, hence my situation.

So, obviously details matter here, so let me explain. I traveled fairly heavily for years for work and made Diamond and Platinum often. Work travel is in the past now. Travel now with my wife for pleasure trips. However, I still keep a Delta Business Reserve card. With the companion certificate, I figure it is about breakeven for me. But it does help me keep my status up -- like this year. This year we have made up for lost time and have done 2 international trips and a third one planned -- Dec. to Australia. (BTW, the Australia flights are a key part of this discussion because we have family there.) I have found that as we have added years, the value of Delta One for us has increased. I have been purchasing upgrades by carefully watching for price decreases. Sometimes I just purchase only the overnight segment. This has worked well for me.

So I see if I make Diamond I can get 4 Global Upgrade certificates. If I get these can I plan on truly getting to use them for flights to Australia in '23? If so, that seems a great value. There is also the random small chance of International upgrades, but I know I cannot count on that. BTW, with the rollovers, my wife will be Platinum and me Diamond, so I would think that improves our upgrade chances.

There may be a small amount of domestic benefits from the Diamond (upgrades) but that would not be of much significance for me.

BTW, my wife tells me she is presently ready to rest at home for a while and do nothing till December. She has a point.

So my choices are: (1) Find a $1,100 trip that I can convince my wife to take; (2) purchase another segment upgrade for the December flight; (3) hope that Delta will allow end-of-year status purchases.

BTW, I wonder if option 3 will be available this year given the number of people with rollover points.

So what does this group think I should do? And importantly, can I count on the Global upgrade certificates being of significant value to me?
