Introduction Ignoring the long-stay accommodation properties (Marriott Executive Apartments), up until now I had stayed at all Marriott hotels in Bangkok, many of them multiple times, except for the three select service ones: Courtyard, Four Points, and Aloft. The main reason I stayed away from CY in the past is because they only have two suites in the entire hotel so for stays where suite upgrades would have some importance, this is not the best place to stay; I would be more likely to recommend this hotel to non-Bonvoy Ambassadors or to solo travellers on a budget who do not care much about suites. Only two suites and currently hotels in Bangkok are quite crowded so I was mentally ready for a regular room... and yet... I arrived at Courtyard and got upgraded to a suite, go figure. Room The suite is among the most spacious (85 sqm) I have seen of any Marriott hotel in the city except at Athenee (Luxury Collection) which has suites of similar size. The suite at CY was newly renovated and in good condition, the downside was that the room was all about functionality and space, there was nothing with a local flavor to make you think you are in Bangkok so it will never be mistaken for a Design or Autograph hotel. I particularly liked the absence of carpet, having 1.5 bath was convenient and even the half bath was spacious. The only weak point about hardware was the lack of rainshower, it seemed they cut corners a bit regarding the main bathroom renovations.The suite had many amenities of full-service hotels such as bathrobes, slippers, mouthwash, etc. and did not feel select service. Dining This hotel used to have a lounge but it’s been eliminated, further reducing the benefits for guests Platinum or above. Instead they provide a drink voucher per person per day. The breakfast could hold its own considering the caliber of this hotel. There were various sections including Thai, Japanese, and Indian, and dishes included some protein instead of only cheaper vegetarian options. Service In my various interaction with staff the service was good and felt on par with full service Marriotts or Sheraton, rather than a lowly Courtyard. Wifi Wifi worked well with speed of 30-50 Mbps. Overall Overall this Courtyard can be good value for the money for people who want a clean functional room, good service, and decent breakfast. While the basic rooms are not so small as to be unbearable, nonetheless for upgrades into more spacious rooms it’s probably not where I would stay, and the same can be said for people looking for free-flow happy hour – hotels with lounges would be better for that.
