Depends on whether money or time is more valuable for you. For example, if the cost was $100 cheaper pre night to stay at the Hyatt Place vs in town it might be worth the effort to walk to the train station / take the bus. I’d personally rather spend that $200 on a nice dinner, or put towards a future trip, but different people have different priorities. If the price differential is $30 a night then probably not worth it.
It also depends if you would go in to town once per day vs multiple times with breaks in the hotel room, For me an hour walking / taking public transport is nothing, but 2-3 hours a day becomes a burden. As far as price not sure but I would guess the train is going to be ~7-8€ each way, bus would probably be closer to 2-3€ and may even be faster. Google maps should give you transit time and maybe prices.
And Hoofdorp itself is not horrible. There isn’t really anything to see that I’m aware of but there are plenty of places to get food/drink if you just wanted to stay “in”. Can take a stroll along some canals as well, just probably not as exciting as those in Amsterdam.
