If she had been bumped from A to stand-by as you describe, one of us would have had to be sedated.
If I learn anything, I’ll be sure to come back and update. BTW: I fully understand. While everything worked out fine, the experience was less smooth than it should have been. It certainly created an extra level of stress for my companion who does not fly as often as I do.

A couple extra notes:

1) I don’t believe they reassigned A33. Nobody queued up behind me.

2) The ticket agent added the “extra time” designation to her boarding pass. We didn’t bother ask the gate agent if she could board with me, because the 30+ seat differential wasn’t as big a deal as the 120 seat differential would have been.

3) Even though the initial aircraft out of HOU this morning was a 700, and they swapped us to an 800, the plane went out completely full. So full they had to walk someone up and down the aisle looking for that last empty seat.

4) The Padres are playing the Royals, and there’s a Chiefs/Packers preseason game. The plane (SAN-MCI) was packed with sports fans.

5) I went to row 21 and sat in the middle seat. I never have any problem saving an window seat when I do that.
