Cancel roundtrip return flight for better price?
I’m seeing some conflicting claims about this when I look around the forums, so I’ll go ahead and ask straight.
I already have a roundtrip BOS -> LHR booked for Jan. I’d like to add a one-way BOS -> LHR child’s ticket to this itinerary. I called BA and the rep actually recommended I book the child’s ticket roundtrip and then cancel the return flight, which would be a better price. They said I **might** get the return trip refunded.
I’m seeing conflicting reports on FT. Some people say that cancelling the return will cause the outbound flight to upcharged to the price of a one-way, others that it will result in receiving a flight credit for the amount of the return flight. That’s a pretty wide discrepancy.
What’s the best way to get the flight credit, rather than the upcharge? If it **does** work to book the roundtrip then cancel the return flight, would I cancel it immediately, or should I wait til closer to the flight?
