Rooms are set up the same with the only real difference being the outdoor shower location or a king bed if that was the available upgrade.
A bit more noise at the OWV from the wooden deck & carts driving by, but that didn't bother us during our stay. YMMV there.
We declined an upgrade for free too mainly because of the noise from the carts. We also loved the outdoor shower of the reef villa although it wasn't a consideration when we contemplated if to take the upgrade. The noise was a major factor though for us. As you said YMMV.
