All we know is Avis is collecting it. If it's simply a way for Avis to help verify legitimate access to use of the code (and they do nothing more with it), then so be it. But is there more to it? Are they storing it and using it for future correspondences? Future marketing campaigns? Something else? Let's call it curiosity.
I guess you'll have to contact Avis about that, maybe enquire about their privacy policies if in a jurisdiction that supports such a thing.
