Adding to this, I did the "Do in the app, then close the app at payment screen" trick. And it worked. But now two weeks later, I noticed my seats were unselected. Just re-did this but I am afraid the seats aren't sticking OR they stick but may go away and other people may select them by the time I realize they were gone.
I reserved my seats on a 4-flight booking for October that I made a month ago, and the seats are still there. I've been keeping a close eye on my reservation, and a couple of weeks ago they suddeny disappeared from MMB and from the app. I checked on Expert Flyer and all four seats showed as occupied, so I figured it might well be a temporary IT glitch on IB's side and decided to wait and see. By the next day the seats had reappeared on both the app and in MMB.
