Yes - well actually they used a RFID card reader. No charge. My guess is that they just needs the BIN or card number.
Just passed through Plaza Premium at TPE T2, and was told that they need to swipe a physical card. SO did use Apple Pay to access the same lounge just a few days ago. So YMMV.
