it does not take 6+ weeks to fix track. It takes thst todo the station creation work.


There will be a significant amount of grading that will need to take place to connect new alignment to the point were it connect to the existing alignment. All of the top soil and the unstable soil under will it need to be removed to allow the placement compacted clean fill dirt. The placement of fill dirt will done in multiple lifts with careful monitoring of moisture content to prevent future settlement. This kind of work can not be done in a few days

There's a photo of this double crossover, apparently brought to the construction site preassembled, on the City of Alexandria's page about station construction. The other good way to get a peek at the progress: have a window seat on the left side of the plane as you land at DCA from the south.


I seemed to have made an error. The double crossover is on a concrete track bed outside the existing right of way. All of the third rail conduit stub outs within the double crossover are already in place. Note the freshly poured concrete under the rail fasteners at the bottom of the photograph.
