Keep in mind Hilton has the promo for checking out during a weeknight this fall. If your original stay was checking out on a weeknight, I suggest booking the second stay as a P2 reservation if possible, as to not mess up that original check out night.
I believe the system will catch the consecutive reservations and link them, giving the latest check-out date, so that should be a moot point. Agree with the other posters to simply make a new reservation and then work with the hotel to ensure continuity of physical rooms. Generally, agents will merge the reservations in the system when asked.
