I tried out using the walkway from the Red Line station to DMK, coming and going on a short trip to Chiang Mai, traveling light. And no, there is no alternative to that short flight of stairs. No one gave any thought to the needs of passengers with luggage, or those who might have trouble with stairs due to disabilities.
