If the gate agents are doing their job correctly, which I understand at Air Canada is an acquired taste, the line for Group 1+2 should be kept clear during boarding once those groups have boarded, and everyone else should be boarding through the other lane, so if you arrive late, you should be able to just stroll right up the Group 1+2 lane and cut in front of everyone else to board ahead of them.
Agreed, and something we have done multiple times when the regional flight gets delayed. The problem which has previously been discussed on other forums is that the GAs don't do enough to tell passengers where to line up. Even worse at certain gates in certain airports where a crush of humanity is the norm and NEEDS direct instruction from the GA staff which usually doesn't happen.
