I'm wondering just what DL would do.

The last time I had a significant problem with a flight was with an AA flight booked through BA that was delayed by about 12 hours. The delay arose on the day of departure and after OLCI. Once AA released me from their flight, BA put me on a BA flight a couple of days later and let me change my return flight (which was on BA) so I'd spend the same amount of time at the destination.
