Seems fair though - to let others who want the seat and have the miles get the chance of booking it first.
This is the typical experience if you speak to their call center agents, not the redemption agents. The call center agents basically follow their own protocol and tell you that there’s no holding a redemption booking. You have to insist on talking to a redemption agent or have one of them call you back. I did exactly that and got a 3 month hold on my redemption flight while working out a Chase transfer. The hold period apparently varies from agent to agent. We didn’t ask for the 3 months, she just gave it to us.
