Since I haven't made any international to domestic connections at bkk since covid, I hope others can update on what that process looks like.

I would say that booking the shorter connection *should* be OK even if interlining doesn't happen because as J passengers, you'll have fast track access, which should clear away the biggest hurdle time-wise. So by the time you have done immigration and bags, you'd be checking at thai smile at roughly the 2 hour and change mark.
