When someone request the upgrade, a new segment in PZ booking class with HL aka waitlist status appear, once the upgrade confirm, the PZ segment will changed to HK aka confirmed while original booking segment changed to HX aka cancelled. So I guess it shouldn't be any problem for UA to reissued the ticket as long as you don't move the confirmed PZ leg.
