^ This. The food/bev situation at the other all-inclusives in the area are going to be pretty lackluster. The Secrets resorts in the area are alright, but I doubt you want to be going there with your daughter

. And the Andaz is a league above the Ziva/Zilaras. And even then, the pitfall with all-inclusive is that you feel super-compelled to "get your money's worth" after having already paid a flat-rate and becoming a captive audience.
Stick with just a la carte @ Mayakoba to keep your options open. You're going to want to explore the other resorts/restaurants in the area, and don't want that to be weighing on your brain when you do. The Andaz Mayakoba also has an all-inclusive add-on option if you want, but even then I saw that a a lot of the menus had additional "supplement" charges for the dishes that you really want to order.
AI -- in my experience -- is really catering to if you''re a medium-heavy drinker and are only mildly discerning about quality. And also if you never leave the property. We spent a week there recently --- probably spending about 80% of the time on-property, interleaved with a few meals at the Rosewood and Fairmont, as well as an excursion to the Joya cirque show -- and really preferred being able to just pay for what we wanted as opposed to gorging because we were on some sort of AI package.
