If you are flying DEN-BOS-LGW all on one ticket on a Blue Basic fare, you are allowed a carry-on on the DEN-BOS leg. However, since Blue Basic boards in the last group, there's not a guarantee that there is overhead space by the time you board -- in that case, your carry-on will be gate-checked for free.

Non-exempt Blue Basic customers would be charged for the gate check.
