Would I then need to ring up at midnight a couple of days later to secure the SIN-SYD leg? Could be potentially risky, if I can’t secure the SIN-SYD leg? Also, does this affect the Total Avios paid & taxes? Thanks,
You are trying to get seats for probably the most sought after 241 destination, so firstly good luck with that. There’s obviously more chance in the UK summer than winter. If you want the stopover outbound, your plan is sound. Having done something similar a few times( but not in the last 4years), be aware there is usually availability to SIN but the hassle is the SIN-SYD leg. You might consider booking straight through to SYD if you can as your first option just to get the seats, and hope you can change to a stopover later, or do the stopover on the return leg, although most like to just get straight home. IIRC Avios cost depends on if you change from the BA11/12 to the BA15/16 in SIN, and this affects the taxes too, but in the scheme of things it is minimal.
