Just because they didn't drop everything to process you does not make it a "horrendous experience". You didn't get on an earlier flight so I assume you made it home on the flight you had booked, what's the big deal?
The flights I had last night were already a re-accommodation because of a previously delayed flight. So no, I didn’t get home on the flight I booked. Regardless of that, the “you got home on the flight you booked” argument doesn’t pass muster with me.
Why offer standby as a benefit if the excuse for not clearing standby is “you didn’t have a seat on this flight, so you can’t complain.”
Yeah, I know I didn’t have a seat, that’s the point of standby!!
I wouldn’t be the least bit upset if I ran up to the gate and they were closing it and said sorry we have to get the flight out on time. But if they had time to
start clearing battlefield upgrades for people
already on the plane, why not fill all the seats?
The prioritization of a battlefield upgrade over getting a standby passenger on the flight is ridiculous for a shuttle flight in the air for ~30 minutes where 1st class probably doesn’t even get a drink.
