Can passengers without disabilities book the wheelchair seats on the Acela Express?
The Acela Express business class cars have one or two single seats for (in Amtrak's words) passengers with disabilities, and they are marked with a wheelchair on the seat map in the Amtrak app.
I'm not looking to take away a seat from someone who needs it, visible disabilities or not (and I have a parent who uses a wheelchair, so I fully sympathize), but if the seats aren't booked and the train is departing, they'll just sit empty.
Is there any way for a non-disabled passenger to book the wheelchair seats--for example, 30 minutes before departure, can I book one in the app if it's still empty?
Thanks.
