No - they didn't give a choice, because they didn't *have* a choice, which is permitted.

It sounds like you ended up getting a fruit plate and 500 points. What more are you hoping for out of a Residence Inn? Even if the fruit plate was meager, they actually gave you a better amenity than 99% of Residence Inns in this world.
