If you live anywhere near the Canadian border, you might also consider applying for NEXUS. It's cheaper than either PreCheck or Global Entry ($50-ish for 5 years) but includes BOTH. The only catch is that you have to interview at a NEXUS enrollment center, but it might be worth it if you can get to one of them easily.
