I know the "Element" doesn't do any upgrades, you get what you paid for. But, I had a VERY low rate. No way I would pay their outrageous rates they are charging now. The Edition is newer so they're probably trying to retain customers, if not, then good for them for being generous. In Dubai I got upgraded at Hyatt properties every time, every time at Hilton properties, even on New Year's Eve to my surprise, several times at IHG, and no times at Marriot properties so far.
