I've generally been using the app to check in and last week, for the first time ever, my mobile key actually got delivered to the app and it worked! I arrived after 11pm and went right to the room with my phone, without stopping at the front desk. In fact, never talked to anyone at the property at all -- checked in on the app, checked out on the app, and used it as my room key for the whole stay. The only "upgrades" I've gotten have been to higher floor rooms in large city hotels. And the two times my SNAs cleared. Other than that, app or no app, I haven't seen an actual suite upgrade in quite a long time.
