While we were there, Hanoi was in the midst of a heat wave, and the kids literally did not want to leave the hotel room during the day due to the heat. But we dragged them out to go see experience some cultural heritage despite the mid-40 C daytime temp. It's counterintuitive, but summer weather in HCMC is actually milder than in Hanoi.
Re: Danang, I highly recommend the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula (Bill Bensley designed). The resort is in such a dramatic peninsular mountain seaside setting that makes it a worthy consideration. I have been to Hoi An twice (because everyone who goes to VN seems to want to visit Hoi An) and I can tell you that the town can be seen in a day, but the nearby beach resorts (such as the FS Nam Hai) are fantastic. Danang has the Bana hills family amusement park, and you can also take a quick tour to the My Son temple ruins. Hue's attraction is the imperial city, however you should know that it was almost entirely destroyed during the war of resistance against America and has now been almost entirely rebuilt.
During our trip, we chose Phu Quoc in July rather than Nha Trang, and found the weather to be much more pleasant than expected for the monsoon season.
Hope this helps

You recommend the IC Danang over the FS Nam Hai?
