Yeah, I tried too.
Maybe NZ is expecting full flights with all paid fares and thusly isn't releasing inventory?

Currently have a 'standard' flight booked early October with UA metal, AVP-EWR-SFO-AKL, but am considering switching to the JFK-AKL one.
It would only be for the sake of the novelty factor though, and at the moment at least I have 'some small' chance of a PlusPoints upgrade with UA.
