I just completed a very nice stay at Mission Pacific.
Globalist recognition was great. I booked on points, got upgraded to the sanctuary studio with ocean view. This was a really nice room. Free valet parking and the $40/person for breakfast at the Seabird was very generous. Weekday breakfast entrees were good, and at under $20 each, one could order an entree, drink, and sides, or even 2 entrees and be covered by this credit. Weekend brunch buffet was even better. I even went over the $40 ordering a mimosa, but the entire bill + tip were still wiped from my final folio.
Valet was fine. When we arrived, the 2 guys there just stood and watched us get out of the car and grab our luggage, without offering any assistance or even a luggage cart. Definitely not the service level for valet at a upper end resort hotel. There were also a couple times when it took a while to retrieve my car, but they were busy so I don’t think I can complain too much about that. In general, I would also opt for self parking as I prefer to have control over my schedule, my stuff, and my car (even if it’s just a rental car), so I’m just not a valet kind of person. I wish this hotel had a self park option.
Back to the hotel. We received a very nice, personalized note in our room acknowledging the special occasion for which we were visiting. It was a really nice touch by the hotel, and very much appreciated. Staying at one property means access to the other. And the globalist breakfast is only at Piper at the Seabird so we made that walk across the street at least daily. The pool at mission pacific was smaller, but also fewer people and more relaxing. The seabird was bigger, but more people and noise. Also, the coastal vibes of both the seabird and mission pacific were really cool, and so much more refreshing than a Hyatt place or Hyatt regency that I’m used to. Balcony with ocean view of the sunset each evening was great. Very nice hanging out there each day.
Locationwise, Oceanside was much nicer than I thought. I had always thought it was a “drive over” city on the way to/from SD, but now I know better. I would also say either of these 2 properties are much better value than the cat 7 alila marea not too far away…
