Excellent trip report SFO777, as usual!
I've done JAL in F and J several times to/from US/Japan, and I've noted that while the Japanese cuisine choice sure does look wonderful and presented very nicely, I have found that it lacks in flavor somewhat. I know Japanese food is not meant to be spiced up or with strong smells, but at 35,000ft, your olafactory senses and taste buds are kind of dull anyway. Hence, I wish JAL (and ANA for that matter) would include some more bolder food choices as well on the menu, they seem to be always narrowly defined between Japanese and Western where the Western choices are rather bland as well. I don't think they have any incentive to change this as their main clientele in J and F are Japanese anyway and this is what suits their palate, but anyway, my $0.02 grip about first world problems!
