I am flying International (SYD) to Canada (YVR) to Canada (domestic - YYZ), to the US and I'm currently on the first leg, arriving into Canada (YVR) in a few hours.
Typically I just put any and all liquids in my checked bags, However, I found something (a cosmetic item) at the Duty Free (which is a small vial of liquid) and purchased it because it's sold out everywhere else. I also have an Air Canada amenity kit that also has toothpaste in it.
How strict is CATSA about the zip top bag? Will they make me throw things away if I don't have one?
Is there a place airside in the domestic section at YVR that sells them? How about at YYZ since I'll need to go through CATSA to get to the transborder area? Does Air Canada have them?
Today I went through CATSA for US preclearance for connecting flights at YVR. This was the first time that I can recall in years where the agent was very picky about everything being in the ziplock bag and he insisted that it was in the ziplock bag that he gave me and not another one. Interestingly, he also let me take out hand sanitizer and all medical liquids outside of the bag as I guess they did not count that toward the quota.
