Note the press release below:
You can still use the Heathrow Express, Airport Busses and obviously cabs to get to T4 in the interim, so it is not as bad as it sounds! T1, T2, and T3 are unaffected.
From January 2005, Customers using the London Underground to travel to and from Heathrow’s Terminal 4 are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
To allow for construction of the Piccadilly line extension to the new BAA Heathrow Terminal 5, London Underground's (LU) Heathrow Terminal 4 station will remain closed while the work is being carried out over a 20-month period.
The closure will only affect passengers using T4. Those traveling to T1, 2 and 3 will benefit from shorter journey times and will still be able to transfer free of charge between T4 and T1, 2 and 3 using the Heathrow Express.
A free, dedicated bus service will also be provided between Hatton Cross station and T4, running every 6 to 7 minutes and dropping passengers off at the terminal entrance. Additional train ticketing facilities and London Underground staff will be provided at Hatton Cross during the period of the closure.
To help ease the journey process, a comprehensive programme of customer information publicity and assistance is being implemented by LU. It includes amending the world-famous Tube map, providing leaflets at stations and special Tube driver and station announcements.
Over the weekend of January 8 & 9, 2005 only, there will be no service on the Piccadilly line in either direction to Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 & 3 and Terminal 4 beyond Hatton Cross. A full replacement bus service will be in operation, with more information to be issued nearer the time.
