Right, in times of high occupancy with high prices and low chances of upgrade there might be better options. However I think paying 5k THB is not unusual for HR (and if above that, then using points start being attractive) and a modest upgrade to at least Deluxe probably happens at least 90%+ of the time for Globalists if you cut out holidays and the like.
